Iraq

Intro

This documentary was the first Yutori's production. Yutori was born from a shared intention between myself and my friend and colleague Dominika Sankowska in order to document stories that demand time, depth, and responsibility. Iraq became our first field project.

Our Journey

Episode I explores the Mesopotamian Marshes and the disappearing world of the Marsh Arabs. Episode II journeys through northern Iraq, documenting ancient heritage, Yazidi sanctuaries, and communities rebuilding after war. From Babylon to the Ahwar, Iraq emerges as one of humanity’s deepest cultural legacies. This documentary is our attempt to preserve stories and voices the world is slowly forgetting.

What Remains After Watching

Iraq is too often reduced to conflict, destruction, and headlines. Yet beyond the narratives imposed from afar, there are people fighting every day to preserve memory, identity, and dignity. These stories are not only about loss. They are about resilience, cultural survival, and the fragile relationship between heritage and the future.
